The Grade 1 and Grade 2 listed Plowden Buildings are located between Fleet Street and Victoria Embankment and within the curtiledge of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. This prestigious project required the relocation of existing kitchens and accommodation prior to breaking through the ground floor slab and installing a large retaining framework to support the footings. Systematic excavation and underpinning was then carried out to create a new floor to replace the accommodation and a new ground floor installed for the storage, food preparation and kitchens.

Integration of the new and existing services within the existing high use building was paramount and was achieved by regular coordination meetings with all parties.

Existing features such as the vaulted ceilings, decorative windows and oak floors were all refurbished to the highest standard and the external stonework and flagstones were cleaned.

The building remained operational throughout the construction period.
