Major structural alterations were undertaken to remove sections of ground floor and roof of the Clore Pavilion at London Zoo to form an atrium, with ETFE roof, and biome at basement level to create a tropical environment and natural habitat for small exotic mammals.
The scheme also included glazed viewing galleries and an open walkway around the tree canopy; glass fronted lift; specialist mechanical and electrical installations; the remodelling and refurbishment of ancillary areas and the installation and fit-out of a roof plant enclosure.
The transformed building was opened to the public in May 2007 as the "Clore Rainforest Lookout".
